My Story

Hello and big welcome to my blog! I would love to tell you a bit more about myself here. My name is Emily and many of you might know me as @stayfitandtravel from Instagram.

Born in Canada and grew up in Hong Kong, I am a recent international business graduate in my early 20s, currently working full-time in talent management.

I was known as the typical party girl back in college. I literally drank until I passed out on the floor everyday for almost 3 years and my lifestyle was a mess. I did not give a care about my body. I ate whatever crap I felt like and I rarely went to the gym or did any exercise because most of the time I was hangover. I just wanted to party like there was no tomorrow and back then, that was my idea of living life to the fullest.

By the end of 2013, I had to have a minor operation and after that, I was so weak that I had to be in and out of the hospital every few weeks. It was then that I realized I had hit rock bottom and I need a complete change of my lifestyle. I wanted to feel healthy and strong. And of course, I wanted to be able to not suck in my tummy on the beach for once in my life.

That is how I started my health and fitness journey. It has not been a long time, I am still an amateur in health and fitness but I am learning and growing everyday. Everyday I get a little bit strong and that's all that matters to me. Now I work out 4-5 times a week, I eat very clean and the best thing is, I feel driven, I feel that my life has a purpose, I feel that there are so many goals in my life that I want to achieve.

As you can tell from my blog, I am also a huge foodie and one of my biggest hobbies right now is to try out all kinds of healthy AND delicious recipes to nourish my body. Eating clean is extremely important to my fitness journey - like the saying goes, abs are made in the kitchen! And this is where I would like to introduce my mum, Kitty, who has one of the most amazing cooking skills in the world and many of the recipes you find here are also planned and experimented by her.
Most of the recipes you find here are healthy, yummy and most importantly, simple and easy for you to try out in your own kitchen!

As for travelling, it has always been my passion in life and nothing will ever change that. I travel whenever I get the chance and I cannot wait to see more of this world.

Stay fit and travel, that is my way of living life to the fullest now.

Please do not hesitate to email me or leave a comment on my posts - I would love to hear your comments, feedbacks and questions. I will try to answer as quickly as possible! Because we are all in this together (:

(International business is not easy ;p especially for me ahah) I am actually writing a post on my diet today!!! However I still have the same problem of feeling like i eat too much/ too little. I try to relax a bit more now and not be so strict on myself as it can really take the fun out of eating. Will make sure to include the portion sizes for the post today. Stay tuned xx and I will for sure check out your IG! Thanks girl!!

I also just moved here from Canada for school and it's been EXTREMELY hard to eat clean and lift (guys are so judgemental at the gym when they see a girl lift) here!! Also, It seems there are carbs and grease everywhere! Although, I did discover Mana's :):) I'm super happy to see your clean eating recipes!!!!! I'M SO GLAD I FOUND YOU!!!! It makes me motivated to eat clean and lift again. THANK YOU!!!

  4. Hi there! You're such an inspiration (: I'm using the BBG as well but am not seeing much results. I've been eating healthy for nearly a year now and exercising regularly. I just can't seem to get rid of the fat around my tummy - i'm very happy with the rest of my body though. I'm on week 4 now and do all the exercises regularly and eat healthy as well but still no abs and i don't look any trimmer :( what do you think is the problem??? thank you for your help in advance :(

    1. Hello there! I think it takes some time to see the progress - for me i was still very frustrated by week 8/9 and feeling like even though I spent so much time and effort on my fitness journey and eating habit, I still saw no results. But looking back, I am so glad that I did not give up because its all worth it now! So i would say, dont give up and keep going on! what you are doing is defs on the right track and give it some time, you will be getting there (: xx

  5. Hi. I have been contemplating to purchase the BBG for a fee weeks now. Are the 12 weeks all home friendly routines? Or I need a gym to go thru them? It would be great if I can do all the routines at home. Lastly, keep up the good work and spirirt. Truly inspiring to us all :)

    1. Hi! Thank you for your comment - it really depends on what equipments you have at home! (You can actually find the list of equipments you will need on Kayla's website: http://help.kaylaitsines.com.au/knowledge_base/topics/what-equipment-will-i-need). Since I don't have all these equipments - i do them at my gym (you can find the details on my blog post: http://stayfitandtravel.blogspot.hk/2014/11/my-workout-gear-protein-supplement-and.html <-- towards the end of my post I wrote about why I go to the gym instead of doing them at home). Hope you find my answers useful (: and thank you again for the kind words xx

  8. Hi! I would just like to say that you really are an inspiration to all of us girls (and boys?) starting our fitness journeys. Your recipes are awesome! Unfortunately, where I live I can't find some of the ingredients, or if I do, they are way too expensive :(! It's a shame because I would like to try out almost all of your recipes, especially the desserts, they look amazing! Anyways, I wanted to congratulate you on your achievements so far, you look amazing! And your blog is pretty awesome too.

  9. Hi Emi! Your blog is amazing, I find myself on here almost every day for inspiration! I'm half way through week 3, and I know it is only early days, but you looked so good after your 4 weeks, and I feel like I'm yet to see any slight difference in my body despite watching what I eat and exercising double what the guide says... perhaps I'm doing it wrong? Thanks Emi xx

  12. Hi there! I'm a university student from Manila, Philippines. I came across your blog through your instagram post of your Crunchy Cranberry and Lemon Cookies (which I can't wait to try!). After reading your post up there, I feel like I'm going to be on here more often.

I'm not overweight or underweight, but I'm not as strong as I'd like to be or believe I could be either. And that's something I'd like to work on this year, and for the rest of my life. I'm so glad to have found your blog, which I can already feel is going to be a lot of help in my own fitness journey. Thanks for sharing yours with us here! :)

  13. Hi Emi! Wow, wonderful transformation. You look amazing. Kudos to your commitment to your new lifestyle and your passion to help others achieve the same! Just a quick question... I am pretty small (4'll'') & I work in the healthcare field so I asked a nutritionist about the meal plan that goes with the BBG program because I felt like I was overeating! From what she said... it was best if the meal plan was customized to my weight/height. I have to try so hard to meet all the requirements hahaha Did you follow the nutrition guide 100%? Nutrition is key so I want to be doing it right if I were to follow through w the entire program. Thanks a bunch!

  17. Hi Emi,

I was wondering if you had any suggestions for eating healthy as a fellow foodie from Hong Kong - especially Asian food. Any suggestions? I feel lots of chinese food especially has a lot of carbs.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best,

    Danielle

    1. hahaa i totalllly agree with that - i also cannot resist yummy chinese food with a lot of carbs! i think vietnamese food is quite healthy, and for chinese food you can always just eat the meat/ seafood/ veggies without the rice (:

  18. Hi Emi!

First of all, thank you so much for sharing your story. The fact that you had the same problems as me (not seeing any progress, having trouble completing the workouts) and yet still managed to make such amazing progress made me feel so much better! I finally feel like I'm not the only one struggling and that I still have the potential to become fit.

However, I'm on BBG week 8 and I haven't seen any progress. None. When I look at your pictures I can see major changes in just 4 weeks. I was wondering if you had any advice on what I could do to start seeing progress. I ordered the protein supplements that you use and I'm going to try to maybe eat smaller portions. I'm just really discouraged that I've been working so hard and eating so healthy but still not seeing any changes.

Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Hi Alex! So sorry for the late reply it's been some time that I have checked my blog, I am glad the post helped a bit, for me I added extra cardio during my first 12 weeks and I really watched my portion back then! How's your fitness progress now? I also get discouraged from times to times but i guess fitness journey does take time and patience (:

  19. Hi Emi,
I'm Using Kayla's BBG too but i have no fitness bases, (I can't even do straight leg push ups) I'm in the normal BMI zone but I wanna have leaner body shapes and abs. How did you see results so fast? Within 4 weeks your change is very obvious, I also eat clean and did lots of research about eating clean and living lean, I did lose 8 pounds from the BBG pre training weeks1-4 to the training weeks1-4 (total 8 weeks), but I started to get depressed, unhappy, weak and exhausted at the end of week4 and I was about getting into week5 or so...what should I do if I can't complete some to the moves on BBG? What did you do to help yourself to get over it? Did u have some moves that you werent able to do? And do you think it is a suitable and proper time for me to train like adults and being strick to my body as a teenager? (I'm 16, a high school student, I have to balance my gym, study, hw and sleeping time, which is kinda hard for me.) I was very motivated the first three week, but then the moves get harder and it's Not possible for me to finish it completely (starting from week5) and I don't know what to do...please help me..Thank you!!!

    1. Hi Kath! no worries, when i started i could not even do push ups on my knees...i actually couldnt do it all the way till week 20 i think. I just kept going even though I wanted to give up multiple times. Believe me, I have also been there - depressed, exhausted, frustrated. It was also very difficult for me to balance a full time job, family, boyfriend, social media and also gym but i think we just need to prioritize what's important to our lives (: if you really find it very difficult to complete the workouts within 7 minutes, maybe try not to set the timer? take as long as you need to finish the circuit at least once, and slowly build up your strength! x

  22. Hello! I've been following you on Insta for awhile and I have to say that your progress is nothing short of amazing. I would like to know how do you cope with clean eating while eating out? Also, I had a "cheat meal" in this week (week2). Should I restart the program or should I just continue with it?

My name is Bianca. I am from South Africa and have been reading your story a while now and i must say you have given me that extra nudge. I have always been Gyming on my own with my own routine. It has given me results but now i am ready to take the next step with my body. Please can you give me some advice where to start and perhaps where i can get a good workout routine. The BBG site currently charges for there guides and i would like to first try some workout before i start spending.

    1. You should check out fitnessblender they have a youtube account and a website with FREE videos! You can definitely do them at home, and you don't need a gym membership!!! The only equipment you might need is dumbbells and a mat. I hope you find this useful. :) (I started their two month program, where they chose the videos they have already made for you and put up a workout schedule. That's like $10 but you can just use their workouts and make out a schedule yourself if you don't want to pay. I have seen changes, I still have a long way to go but I will keep up with them.) Good Luck!
